Building reinsurance on-chain
Soon
Reinsurance is old, regulated, and operationally complex. Putting it on-chain does not remove that complexity; it just makes the assumptions explicit.
The core tension
Traditional reinsurance optimizes for legal certainty and long time horizons. Crypto-native capital optimizes for composability and speed. Product design sits in the middle and has to translate between both worlds.
What has to be true
- Capital must be transparent and auditable.
- Risk models must be explainable to non-crypto stakeholders.
- Settlement logic must preserve legal intent, not just technical correctness.
The work is less about inventing new primitives and more about reducing coordination cost between institutions that operate on different timelines.
This one is still in progress. Read the previous post while this draft is being finished: Why Gateway pivoted from ZK to MPC.
